The rapid growth of wind energy is remarkable, and the UK’s ambitious plan to achieve a capacity of 50 GW in offshore wind energy by 2030 underscores its strategic importance in meeting the nation’s energy and environmental targets. However, progress in essential technologies supporting the management of wind energy systems lags far behind, and traditional methods struggle to handle the increasing complexities of wind farms and are ill-equipped for the massive amounts of data being produced.

AIOLUS aims to reshape the wind energy sector via cutting-edge AI to address these challenges. It creates AI-powered control and digital twin technologies to enhance wind farm operations and predict maintenance needs, boosting energy capacity, lowering the average cost of electricity, and accelerating the UK towards its Net Zero target. AIOLUS targets an LCOE reduction of at least 6% compared with the state-of-the-art tools, and a 3-5% rise in annual energy production which is approximately equivalent to the yearly consumption of 1 million households based on the wind generation capacity in the UK in 2022.
