Professor Liz Varga

Professor Liz Varga, FCABE, FAcSS, is a director of UKCRIC Limited, the consultancy arm of the Collaboratorium for Research in Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC). She is an Executive member of UKCRIC, a 15 university collaboration. She is the Principal Investigator for the CRISIS-WATER project creating a viable AI product for water leakage prediction. She is Professor of Complex Systems in the Civil, Environmental, and Geomatics Engineering Department of University College London (UCL) where she leads the Infrastructure Systems Institute. Liz teaches, writes, and advises globally on energy, transport, digital communications, water, and waste systems. Her key research themes include infrastructure resilience, sustainable innovation, and decarbonisation, using digital approaches including digital twins, computational ontologies and models. She is a commissioner with the National Preparedness Commission, a governor of the Data and Analytics Facility for National Infrastructure and a project manager on a new international standard ISO 22372 on infrastructure resilience.
