Dr. Jawad Fayaz

Dr. Jawad Fayaz is a Lecturer in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Exeter and an Honorary Lecturer at University College London (UCL). After completing his Ph.D. at the University of California in 2021, he continued his research at UCL as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and subsequently joined University of Exeter. Dr. Fayaz’;s research is based on machine learning and deep learning areas with interdisciplinary goals of improving community resilience and sustainability through engineering and environmental intelligence. His work encompasses a wide array of challenges related to natural and built environments including decision support systems for early warning, probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, infrastructural health monitoring, traffic optimization, water distribution management, and climate change adaptation strategies. He specializes in several advanced techniques including artificial neural networks, time-series analysis, feature engineering, Bayesian modelling, and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). His academic endeavours aim not only to advance scientific understanding through quality publications but also to foster practical solutions in terms of open source softwares that enhance the safety and sustainability of communities globally.
